Format

Alternative Rock. WPGU's True Alternative Radio is programmed by our staff and listeners to create a truly alternative sound. From classic artists like Elvis Costello, The Cure and Weezer; groundbreaking bands including The Ramones, The Pixies and The Clash, to new artists such as The White Stripes, Bad Religion, Wilco and Interpol, WPGU offers a sound that can't be heard anywhere else in the Champaign-Urbana market. You'll also find selections from the best local and regional bands on the rock music scene. We combine the philosophy of “just play great music” with personality driven radio – no button pushers allowed – to create a unique brand for our listeners.

Listeners

Primary. WPGU targets 18 – 34 year old adults, as well as over 40,000 students at The University of Illinois and Parkland College. Our listeners can be found on campus and in the community – students, UIUC staff, local musicians, residents and businesses. Local residents are familiar with WPGU 107.1 as an innovator in local rock radio since 1953.

WPGU's audience of young adults are establishing brand name loyalties as they move into their peak spending years. With significant levels of disposable income, these emerging professionals are making major purchases and financial decisions, including homes, automobiles, furniture, appliances, audiovisual equipment, healthcare, banking, insurance, investments and financial services.
