How much does it cost for the Creative Works team to make my ad?

When you purchase a print ad, Creative Works will make the ad for you at no additional charge. But, the student designers are also happy to work with your ad rep to develop an idea or a campaign for future use as well. We call these spec ads. The more time a designer has to work with your idea, the more creative they can become. If you know you’ll be looking to make a big splash for a sale or event a month from now…don’t hesitate to get started on designing your ads.

What are the deadlines for ads?

The Daily Ilini display ad deadline is 5 p.m. 3 business days in advance of the ad run. Please be careful around University holiday dates. The deadline for Buzz is 3 p.m. the Thursday before the ad run. See the rate card for special section deadlines.

Is the deadline different if I’m making the ad myself?

When making an ad yourself, we ask that we receive your ad at the time of the space reservation. See the rate card for special section deadlines. This ensures that we have enough time to address and problems in file transmission, size, etc.

Can you make my ad from a flyer or ad I’ve run in another paper?

This can be tricky. The file you have may be able to be resized proportionally into a smaller or larger ad in our paper. This would be the easiest way to use an existing file. We can often closely replicate an ad or flyer you’ve used elsewhere in a new version. We are not likely to be able to alter text in a file, especially a .pdf. If this is something you’d like us to look at, please leave ample time ahead of deadline to allow for proofing and any revisions.

Explain a column inch.

We measure ads in The Daily Illini by the column inch. This is like measuring a room for carpet. Carpet is sold by the square foot, or feet wide x feet long. Ad space is measured the same way, with columns wide x inches long. Refer to the rate card for the exact dimensions of each column taking the space between columns into consideration.
